This piece speaks to the experience of walking between two worlds — the fast-paced expectations of modern life and the deep, steady rhythm of Country.

The softness of the pastels is intentional. The lighter tones are not an absence, but a presence — a reminder that identity is not defined by how dark or visible something appears on the surface. Culture, connection, and belonging live far deeper than colour.

For many Aboriginal women, this journey is layered. Moving through spaces where we are sometimes seen, sometimes questioned, and sometimes misunderstood — yet always carrying strength, knowledge, and quiet resilience.

The pathways in this piece do not clash; they coexist. They show that walking in two worlds is not about choosing one over the other, but about holding both with balance, respect, and truth.

Eagle and Red Belly Black by Nathan Kilby is a powerful original artwork that shares a deeply personal story of family, ancestry, resilience and connection to Country. Created by Wiradjuri and Wakka Wakka artist Nathan Kilby, born and raised in Tulmur Ipswich, the artwork honours his family lines, cultural identity and the guiding presence of his ancestors.

The eagle represents Nathan’s grandfather as a strong hunter, protector and spiritual guide, while the red belly black snake represents his grandmother, symbolising protection, wisdom, survival and transformation. Through rich maroon, purple, gold, pink and silver tones, the artwork reflects family unity, lived journeys, strength through hardship and the continuation of future generations.

Created on the traditional lands of the Yagara People, this Gililan Doll
shares a story of identity, connection, and cultural pride.
Growing up Lakota Moon rarely saw dolls, television characters, or
toys that reflected her people, culture, or community. This doll was
created from that longing for representation, connection, and
visibility for young Indigenous children.
The bungil (grass) skirt honours culture and ceremony, while
celebrating the strength and beauty of identity through play and
storytelling.
The dotted markings on the doll represent the stars above Yagara
Country, symbolizing ceremony, gathering, and the connection
between ancestors, sky, and country.
More than a doll, this piece is a reminder to children that they
deserve to see themselves reflected in the world around them.

Ngurrin means emu, Jidun means feather skirt, and Jundal means woman. The emu feather skirt honours the traditional use of emu feathers in cultural clothing and adornment connected to Country, while the dotted markings represent the stars above Yagara Country, symbolising ceremony, gathering and the connection between ancestors, sky and Country.
